 One of our favorite adventures is going to the Magic Valley Exotic Pet Expo (formerly the Twin Falls Reptile Expo) in October, where I sell my journals featuring all kinds of critters. (It is the one place where I never get that "ewwww!" reaction when people see tarantulas or snakes or...hissing cockroaches on my artwork! It's one of my favorite events. https://www.facebook.com/mvpetexpo/ This year we brought home some new friends - some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches! I have actually loved these little critters since I held one at the age of 12 during a trip to Washington DC - my favorite thing was the bug zoo, and holding Charlie the Hissing Cockroach was a highlight of the entire trip. Tonight after doing all the small pet chores, I noticed this cockroach was doing a bit of undressing. (Scandalous! ;)) It was fascinating to watch them discard the old exoskeleton and emerge bright white. They will go back to the regular deep brown and black color as the new exoskeleton hardens.
