Just the most fluffy and soft looking moss growing on a tree in a local campground. I did pause to get this picture, but we did not stay too long, because there was a growl that was probably not but possibly was a bear. (And the side of the campground we were on had absolutely nobody else there - so wonderful and peaceful, but presumably for animals as well as people. We decided caution was the better choice.)
Can you spot the grasshopper among the dirt and leaves? In late September, these guys were everywhere as we went on our walks!
Can you spot the grouse sitting in the tree? Cooed at us cutely for quite a little while before taking off into the sky!
Sometimes you take a nice little adventure on a dirt road, and then...come home and run over a roofing nail in your driveway.
Obstacles in the path! (Courtesy of a pretty good storm a couple of weeks ago.) Sometimes you go over, sometimes you go under, sometimes you go around, or - as we did on this particular day - you just head back the way you came, happy with your walk. :)
Up in the mountains, in the shade, in September. Elder Child absolutely loves snow, so it was a nice promise of cooler weather and cozy snowstorms to come!
I absolutely love being in nature, outside, in the mountains. And yet, sometimes storms blow through that have the power to do things like...uproot entire trees, and that kind of power is more than a little bit frightening!
